November 1989 :
Approved as a signatory agent to the Airlines’ Market Development Programmed (MDP). This permits us to transact business directly with the airlines in Malaysia. With this development, we commence our ticketing and outbound business with the corporate companies, especially the Japanese companies.
October 1991 :
Became a member of the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and industry (MGCC). Signed an understanding with Lufthansa, the German Airline and MGCC to organize travel packages for visitors and exhibitors to trade fairs in Germany and Europe. With this move, we expanded our business to the local market.
August 1992 :
Approved as a member of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM). With this appointment, we began to handle trade missions organized by JACTIM.
February 1993 :
Qualified as a member agent of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the first Japanese travel agent in Malaysia to be appointed. Simultaneously, we are admitted to the IATA-BSP (IATA-Bank Settlement Plan). The qualifying prerequisites of an IATA-BSP agent are:
Actively supportive of the airlines & financial capabilities to honour business activities.
With this admission, Orex Travel was given ‘common ticket’ facility for the 31 IATA airline members operating in this region. It means that Orex Travel can issue tickets from our office at any time of the year on these airlines.
At a short span of ten years since 1993, Orex Travel has achieved the distinction of being in the top 10 producers of airline sales in IATA-BSP. Our booking system was totally computerized through the cutover of a Computer Reservation System (CRS) named ABACUS. This fully automated system allows Orex Travel to provide instant booking and ticketing facilities on all major airlines for our customers.

Yobiyose Travel:
Families, relatives and friends of Japanese working in Malaysia have strong desires to visit our country. Hence we started a service where the sponsor in Malaysia can make reservations, issue tickets and courier them to the travelers in Japan, right to their homes. This service has proved to be immensely popular.
Holiday Packages:

During long holidays and factory shutdowns we organized specially tailored holiday packages for the Japanese community. The destinations could be local popular holiday spots or international destinations like Phuket, Bali, Australia, New Zealand, Maldives, Mauritius and Europe. These packages are conducted in Japanese.
We are also one of the appointed agent for Star Cruises, Club Med & MAS Golden Holidays package.

Motor Sports in Malaysia:
The year 1999 heralds the entry of Malaysia in to the international arena of motor sports. The country was given the opportunity to host one of the legs of the very prestigious Formula One Racing Event. The Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix is staged at the world-class circuit – The Sepang International Circuit. Orex Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd has the distinction of being appointed by the organizer, Sepang International Circuit Sdn Bhd (SIC), to promote and market this event to the Japanese community in Malaysia, the ASEAN countries and Japan. For the local front we made purchase of tickets convenient through our office and facilitate easy access to the circuit by organizing transport from the city. For the oversea visitors we organize packages that include air tickets, accommodations, entrance tickets, transport etc. Our commitment was recognized by SIC and their confidence in us is demonstrated by appointing us as the ticketing agent in the F 1 racing calendar.
Japan GT Racing Championship:
This very popular racing event in Japan left the Japanese shores for the first time in June 2000. The thrills of the event were glamorized by the racing beauty queens and Japan GT Racing makes its entry to the Malaysian Motor Racing calendar. Orex Travel & Tours was appointed by GT Association Japan to popularize, promote and market this event to the Malaysian community, the ASEAN countries, especially Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei. For 2001, Orex embark on projects to bring the drivers, teams, organizers and supporters from Japan, organize packages and sell tickets to the local market

In January 1999, we secured the contract to operate a travel office in The Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur. This office is operated by 2 Japanese staff & 4 Japanese-speaking staff and provides full reservations, tour arrangement and ticketing services for all IATA airlines. The office operates every day of the year from 10 am until 8 pm. |
